08/20/09 @ Xavier
High School
After the disappointing loss on Tuesday, the Redbirds showed their
skills to defeat Appleton Xavier 2-1. Xavier struck first,
following a questionable "handball" called in the box. Despite numerous
calls by the refs, DePere controlled the majority of play. Our
defense held strong only allowing a minimal number of shots and was
quick to move the ball up to the midfield. Redbirds first goal came in
the 45th minute. On a direct kick, set just outside of Xavier’s
box, Evan placed a beautiful shot up and around the wall of players to
hit the net in the upper right corner. Offense continued to attack with
breakaway runs and through-balls by Brad, Casey, Evan, Justin, and

shots across the goal. In the opening minutes the ball was set
high across the goal to connect to Tyler with a great header but was
saved by the Terrors' goalie. A corner kick by Evan was passed
back to Logan for another strong shot on goal. The boys moved the ball
well in the first quarter, but the ball didn't make the back of the
net.
Unfortunately the remaining time was more evenly played with the play
going in Appleton's favor. On the 37th minute Appleton West's shot was
deflected by Chris (goalie) and bounced back off the far post. It was
kicked in on the second attempt to start the disappointing
