Division 1 State Tournament, Semifinals:  De Pere vs. Madison Memorial


In a passionate game where DePere fought for every gain, Madison Memorial took the win 0-1. Playing on a field that was wet and muddy, we attacked with everything we had.  Offense had 9 shots on goal and Cole had 3 saves.

Thursday's games was the Redbirds' first win at state since winning the Division 2 championship in 1993. DePere is believed to be the first No. 6 seed to ever advance to state.  Their play on the field showed for itself that they deserved to be there.

Division 1 State Tournament, Quarterfinals:  De Pere vs. Eau Claire Memorial


De Pere defeats Eau Claire Memorial 4-2 during their Division 1 Quarterfinal matchup.  DePere's defense stood up the Eau Claire offense.  The teams battled to a scoreless tie through regulation play and two overtimes before they finished in the shootout.  Our defensive five, Logan, Matt, Mark, Jacob, & Cole, really stepped up and played hard every minute of the 100 minute game as Eau Claire had 24 shots goal; none went in. Cole, as he stretched to all edges of the goal, had some game stopping saves. Six shots into the PK's, Jacob sealed the win with a high solid shot past Eau Claire's goalie. Other PKs were made by Evan C., Evan R., & Logan.

This is the Redbirds' first win at state since winning the Division 2 championship in 1993. DePere is believed to be the first No. 6 seed to ever advance to state.

ball Saturday, 10/24/09 
Sectional Finals at Kaukauna High School: Sheboygan South vs. De Pere


Redbirds take state berth and claim the Sectional Championship, after a double overtime and shootout to decide the win.  Though De Pere came out strong, the Redwings scored first just three minutes into the game.  De Pere stepped up and fought back hard.  De Pere broke through their defense repeatedly with 17 shots on goal. Shortly into the second half, off a long ball from Graham up the left wing of the field, Casey took the ball deep then across the goal. With Evan C. flanking Casey and ready to take the pass, Casey cut back against the defender, and made the tieing goal.  At the end of the double overtime the game was tied 1:1. In the shootout the team was tied 3:3 after five shots; Pk's were made by Jacob, Logan, & Evan C.; Cole had 1 save.  The remaining shootout was golden goal and sudden death to the losser. On the Redwings' 6th attempt Cole stretched left making the save and setting up De Pere for the win.  Evan R. made the winning goal and sealed the win 2-1.

ball Thursday 10/22/09.  GB Southwest @ De Pere

De Pere controlled the field as they shut out Green Bay Southwest 3-0. De Pere continued to show strong team work as defense kept the ball on the Southwest end of the field and our mid-field & offense maintained pressure throughout the game. Our first goal came as Graham took the ball deep & wide to the left of Southwest's goal. With a high cross, Casey took the ball down and scored from a half bounce. Justin had the second goal as he beat the goalie & the defender to take the ball in untouched.  Casey had the third goal to lock in the win.  Brad and Evan C. each had an assist, Cole had 3 saves, and De Pere had 10 shots on goal.

Come support De Pere as the Redbirds' go up against Sheboygan South on Saturday, October 24  for the Sectional Finals at Kaukauna High School.

ball Thursday 10/15/09 Shawano @ De Pere

De Pere shut out Shawano 2-0 as they take the WIAA Regional Finals.  Justin scored off an assist from Mark and Evan C. scored off an assist from Brad.  De Pere had 21 shorts on goal; Cole had 3 saves. Our Redbirds continue to control the field as they advance on to the FRCC sectionals next Thursday.

ball Tuesday 10/13/09 Manitowoc @De Pere

Justin scored a pair of goals for De Pere to Defeat Manitowoc 3-2.  De Pere controlled the field thoughout the game and out shot Manty 3 to 1. Evan C. scored the third goal and Cole had 3 saves.  Micheal T. had 2 assists and Logan had 1.

ball Thursday 10/8/09 DePere @ Bay Port

DePere lost to the Bay Port Pirates 3-1.  The Pirates controled the first half and were up 3-0 at half.  Matt's second half goal fired up the team as the Redbirds came back strong and persistent.  The team had 5 shots on goal and Cole had 8 saves.

ball Tuesday 10/6/09  DePere @ Green Bay East

DePere defeated GB East 3-0.  Michael T., Evan C. and Casey all scored.  Casey and Graham both had assists. Cole had 4 saves for the shutout.

ball Monday 10/5/09 DePere @ Luxemburg-Casco High School

DePere defeated Luxemburg-Casco 3-2.  Our first goal was from a half field free kick by Jacob to a  goal by Casey.  The second goal was a pass from Justin to a goal by Evan C. Evan C. had the third goal.

ball Thursday 10/1/09 Pulaski @ DePere

Justin scored 20 seconds into the second half off an assist by Evan C. to lead DePere to a 1-0 victory over over Pulaski in the Fox River Classic Conference.  DePere had 6 shots on goal; Cole had 4 saves.

ball Tuesday 9/29/09  DePere @ Sheboygan South

DePere took a hard loss against Sheboygan South (1-0).  Though DePere out shot Sheboygan South 3-1, their effort came up short. DePere had 10 shots on goal; Cole had 4 saves.

ball Thursday 9/24/09 Green Bay South West @ DePere

DePere took its fourth consecutive win as they beat South West 3-1. Our defense and midfield shut down the Trojans as the ball rally crossed the 50 yard line.  Offense had 11 shots on goal.  Goals by Evan C. assisted by Casey, Justin assisted by Evan R., and Max assisted by Brad.  Cole had 4 saves.

ball Tuesday 9/22/09  Sheboygan North @ DePere

DePere controlled the field to shut out Sheboygan North 2-0.  Casey had two breakaway runs and shots on goal. A third run resulted in a corner kick by Evan C. and goal by Michael T. Evan C. had the final goal off a half bounce in front of the goal. Cole had 4 saves.

ball Monday 9/21/09 DePere @ New London

Four players scored goals in the Redbirds' victory over New London.  Casey, Evan C., Max, and Paul At. all had goals in this nonconference match.  Assists by Evan C. (1) and Jacob (2); Cole and Chris shared the goal. Cole had 4 saves.

ball Saturday 9/19/09 DePere @ Kimberly

DePere shut out Kimberly with a decisive win of 2 - 0. Our first goal came twenty minutes into the game. Casey took the ball wide into the left corner and crossed it over the net to Graham in the opposite corner who played it back to center and Evan C. made the scoring shot.  Later,  Evan R. came charging up the left wing with Paul A. running parallel up the center.  Evan beat the defender to score unassisted.  Cole H. had 7 saves.

ball Thursday 9/17/09 DePere @ Green Bay Preble

DePere lost to the Green Bay Preble Hornets 4-2.  Preble scored first but the Redbirds answered less then a minute later with their own goal by Graham with an assist from Casey.  In the second half Casey put his own goal in with a cross from Kyle.  The last 15 minutes was intense as our forward team of Casey, Evan C. , Brad, Graham, and Kyle had 6 shots across the goal and our defense kept the ball in front of the 50.  Cole had 4 saves.
ball Tuesday 9/15/09 Manitowoc Lincoln @ DePere

DePere rocked the Manitowoc Lincoln Ships 5-1.  With the first goal well placed just 4 minuttes into the game the Redbirds took control of the game.  The Redbirds kept the pressure on throughout the game and out shot Manitowoc 14 to 4.  Cole and Chris shared the goal.  Brad: 1 goal, 2 assists; Evan: 2 goals; Kyle: 1 goal; Graham: 1 goal; Mike T: 2 assists.
ball Saturday 9/12/09  DePere @  Appleton East High School

DePere Redbirds took a disheartening loss to the Appleton East Patriots (2-1). With 12 minutes left in the game, and Appleton ahead 2-0, Kyle made a breaking run towards the goalie. As the goalie tried to secure the ball with a sliding grab, Kyle's kick forced the ball loose and out of the goalies grasp. Two steps later Kyle placed the ball into the net. Though the boys fought for every minute in the game, they were unable to secure the win. The team had 6 shots on goal, two of which came from our defensive team Kevin and Mark. Chris had 3 saves.
ball Thursday 9/10/09 DePere @ Ashwaubenon Corner Stone

DePere took a hard 2-0 loss against the Ashwaubenon Jaguars. It was an evenly matched game until the 67th minute when Ashwaubenon scored the first of their two goals from a corner kick. This was a physical game with 5 yellow cards being shared between the two teams and Ashwaubenon receiving a red.  DePere had 9 shots on goal and Chris V. had 4 saves.
ball Friday 9/4/09 DePere @ West DePere

Redbirds shut out the Phantoms with a 4-0 win.  DePere controlled the game as the Phantom's defense fought hard to stop the Redbird's attacking presure.  DePere had 6 solid shots on goal when Cole made the first goal of the night.  DePere contined to control the field with a total of 14 shots on goal. Other goals were made by Evan C., and two by Justin.

ball Tuesday 9/2/09  DePere @ Notre Dame Acadamy

Redbirds Varsity Soccer lost to the Notre Dame Tritons 3-0.  The Redbirds came out strong with two shots on goal within the opening minutes.  Quickly the match became a defense game as Evan C. Brad and Matt controlled the middle; Logan and the rest of the defensive team rejected the Tritons forward push.  Offense had 5 shots on goal.  Chris had 7 saves.

ball Sat 08/29/09 Shorewood High School @ DePere

Chris V. made five saves to help De Pere shut out Shorewood 3-0 in a non-conference game.  Casey, Justin, and Kyle each scored with two assists from Evan C.  The whole team enjoyed playing this game as everyone had some time on the field even though the temperature was a balmy 54 degrees and a constant rain pelted our players.  The Redbirds outshot Shorewood with 20 shots on goal to their 5.

ball Fri 08/28/09 Stevens Point H.S. @ DePere

DePere was in the lead 1-0 when the officials stopped the game due to weather conditions.  It was disappointing to see the players leave the field.  The boys were really meshing well as they controlled the offensive and defensive play. Our one goal came 21 minutes into the game. With a strong kick from the 18, Casey's shot crossed the box untouched and into the net.  Chris V. had three saves as goalie.

ball Tue 08/25/09 GB West @ DePere

De Pere took GB West for a decisive win of 4 to 1.  With a deep kick and the quick offensive rush, the first goal came 14 seconds into the game from a pass from Max to Casey G. Two minutes later the second goal was shot as Max passed the ball out from the top of the box to Evan C.  The next goal started with a long pass from defense to the midfield, Evan R. to Evan C..  With the cross from Evan C., Kyle R, scored the third goal.  The final goal came from an assist from Kyle to a well-placed goal by Casey G.  The Redbirds held the shutout until the last ten minutes with West scored their only goal.

ball Fri & Sat  08/21/09 Waunaukee Invitational 

The Waunakee tournament was a hard fought series of games. De Pere placed seventh out of eight team.

ball Thur  08/20/09  @ Xavier High School

After the disappointing loss on Tuesday, the Redbirds showed their skills to defeat Appleton Xavier  2-1.  Xavier struck first, following a questionable "handball" called in the box. Despite numerous calls by the refs, DePere controlled the majority of play.  Our defense held strong only allowing a minimal number of shots and was quick to move the ball up to the midfield. Redbirds first goal came in the 45th minute.  On a direct kick, set just outside of Xavier’s box, Evan placed a beautiful shot up and around the wall of players to hit the net in the upper right corner. Offense continued to attack with breakaway runs and through-balls by Brad, Casey, Evan, Justin, and Max.   In the 75th minute, Evan scored the second goal after he beat the last defender and was 1:1 with the goalie.  The last 4 minutes were the longest of the game as De Pere held Zaivier to the 2 -1 victory.

ball Tue  08/18/09  Appleton West Terrors @ DePere

he Redbirds took a hard loss to the Appleton West Terrors: 3-0.  The first twenty minutes the boys controlled the mid-field and the forward push. Our offense took the ball into the corners followed by shots  across the goal. In the opening minutes the ball was set high across the goal to connect to Tyler with a great header but was saved by the Terrors' goalie.  A corner kick by Evan was passed back to Logan for another strong shot on goal. The boys moved the ball well in the first quarter, but the ball didn't make the back of the net.

Unfortunately the remaining time was more evenly played with the play going in Appleton's favor. On the 37th minute Appleton West's shot was deflected by Chris (goalie) and bounced back off the far post. It was kicked in on the second attempt to start the disappointing shut-out.   The second half brought two more goals by the Terrors.  DePere had 8  shots on goal.

ball 8/23/08  GB East Invitational:  The Varsity team looked strong against a very solid Southwest team (1-1). While Seymour (5-0) and Kaukauna (0-0) teams weren’t as challenging opponents as Southwest, it gave our team the opportunity to test our depth. This first competition allowed our boys to play as a team, the first step towards a winning season.  Goals Scored:  Seymour - Brad  had a diving header, Giacomo scored 2x, followed by Zach, and Tyler.  Southwest goal:  Brad.
ball 8/26/08 Though a hard fought game, De Pere lost to Appleton West due to a penalty kick (0-1)

8/28/08  Redbirds edge rival Phantoms:  Casey and Giacomo scored first-half goals to lead host De Pere to a 2-1 victory over West De Pere on Thursday in a nonconference boys soccer match.  Brad assisted on Casey's score, while Eric made three saves for De Pere (1-1), which had 22 shots on goal.  Press-Gazzette – August 29, 2008
ball 8/29-8/30/08 Waunakee tournament: De Pere lost to Eau Claire Memorial on the eighth kick of a penalty kick shootout in the championship game.  The teams played to a 1-1 tie.  Giacomo scored the goal and Eric made 11 save for the Redbirds (1-1-3).  De Pere advanced to the title game by winning a pair of games in shootouts.  The Redbirds topped Verona and Wisconsin Rapids on penalty kicks after 0-0 ties.  Eric made six saves against Verona and seven stops against Rapids. ball 9/4/08  At Thursday’s game against Manitowoc, Tom lead things off with a PK.  In the second half, Zach had a hattrick - and it was actually 3 in a row.  Giacomo, Evan, and Chad (PK) closed things out for a 7-3 victory.  Assists were made by Brady and Chad.
ball 9/9/08  DePere played GB West to a 4-1 victory.  West scored first, but DePere quickly took contol of the field with strong teamwork to the 4-1 win.
ball 9/11/08  Thursday's game against Notre Dame was a hard faught game.  The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time with a goal by Evan. The game went into two 10 minute overtimes.  Notre Dame scored with 30 seconds left on the clock. DePere 1 - Notre Dame 2.
ball 9/15/08  Monday, DePere lost to Luxemburg-Casco 3-2.  Goals by Giacomo and Tom. Eric had 9 saves.
ball 9/16/08  Tyler scored the game-winning goal off a direct kick from 20 yards out with 3 minutes remaining.  Giacomo provided the other goal with 9 seconds left in the first half off an assist from Evan.  Eric made 12 saves. (Green Bay Press-Gazette/ Boys Soccer, Sept., 17, 2008)
ball 9/18/08  Brad and Tom each tallied second-half goals to lead De Pere to a shout against Pulaski. Evan provided a assist on Brad's score. Eric made four saves to preserve the shutout.  (Green Bay Press-Gazette/ Prep Soccer, Sept., 19, 2008)
ball 9/20/08  On Saturday, De Pere defeated Kimberly with a 2-0 nonconference shutout.  Eric had five saves.  Casey scored off an assist from Logan.  Second goal by Tom.
ball 9/23/08  Tyler had one goal and a pair of assists as the Redbirds overpowered GB East.  Brad, Justin and Matt each added a goal for a 5-2 win.  DePere also scored on an East own goal.  Eric had six saves.  (Green Bay Press-Gazette/ Prep Soccer, Sept., 24, 2008)
ball 9/25/08  48 minutes in to the game, from a deflected corner kick, Bay Port sneaked in the winning score to a 1-0 win over DePere.  DePere fought hard with repeated shots and drives to the Pirates' goal.  Eric had 11 saves.
ball 9/27/08 Tyler L. scored unassisted early in the second half against Appleton East. The goal lifted the team to a strong second half and a 1-0 shutout.  Eric had 5 saves.
ball 9/29/30  DePere shut out Sheboygan North in a 5-0 win on Tuesday.  Casey and Brad each had two goals, and Giacomo had one.  Goals were assisted by Evan (2) and Casey (1).  Eric Cotter had four saves.
ball 10/02/08  Preble took the win in OT in a surprising deflected goal off the top post of the goal (1-2).  DePere came on strong with a goal by Matt with an assist from Evan 4 minutes into the first half.  DePere continued to control the game with Preble pressing hard.  In the 60th minute, Preble shot to the far left corner and Eric stretched out to block the goal with one hand. The ball came back quickly for a score to tie the game and force the overtime.
ball 10//7/08  With a steady rain throughout the game, DePere scored 4 to Southwest 1 goal.  Casey scored 25 minutes into the first half.  The game was tied at the half.  Brad, Justin, and Giacomo each scored a second-half goal.  Eric made eight saves to secure the game. 
ball 10/9/08 DePere had a strong first half against Ashwaubenon with controlling the field and good ball control.  Giacomo made our single goal and DePere ended the half with a 1-0 lead.  Though we had many shots at Ashwaubenon's goal and the boys played hard to the last moment, the final score was DePere 1, Ashwaubenon 2. Eric made 6 saves.
ball 10/14/08  Tyler had a goal and an assist as DePere blanked Southwest in the first round of the FRCC tournament.  Tyler scored in the first half and he assisted on Giacomo's goal in the second half.  Eric made five saves.  The win was supported by a strong offensive control of the first half.   Southwest came on strong in the second half, but our mid-fielders and defense held strong to preserve the shutout.
ball 10/16/08  After two scoreless overtimes, NDA made all five of its shots in a shootout to edge DePere 5-4 .  It was a physical game and the boys played tough throughout the double over times. DePere had a number of strong drives and 8 shots on ND’s goal.  Eric  had 15 saves.  Many of the save were from ND corner kicks. Eric repeatedly grabbed the ball out of the air in the mist of attacking players.
ball 10/18/08  Saturday, DePere lost to Bay Port 0-1 in round 3 of the FRCC tournament.  Early into the first half the pace of the game was set by frequent calls by the center ref and a duel yellow card presented to both teams.  Offense had 5 shots on goal and a number of strong runs, but ended up scoreless.  Bay Port scored in the second half.  Defense played strong throughout the game, with Eric making 8 saves.
ball 10/20/08  The night started with all of the Redbird Seniors on the field.  Offense came on hard and fast. Defense pushed up near the 50 for most of the game. Michael, Giacomo, Tom, Alex (seniors) and Justin all had goals.  Tyler L. had three goals to power the DePere team to the final score of 8-0.  Saves were made by Eric, Chris, & Tom who all shared the goalie position.
ball 10/23/08  DePere controlled the game to shutout New London 2-0.  Brad struck 10 minutes in for the Redbirds off an assist from Matt to give DePere the early lead in the first round regional match.  Giacomo added a goal in the 60th minute with an assist from Justin. Eric preserved the shutout with 3 saves.
ball 10/25/08  DePere lost to Plymouth tonight in a tough battle to continue into sectionals.  Plymouth scored in the first half and DePere tied the game in the 79th minute to go into overtime.  After two scoreless ten minute overtimes, the game ended in a shootout.  DePere 3 - Plymouth 4.
